Good Luck Everyone

I want to say this class really helped me see myself and my lack of listening and communication skills. However it also heightened my drive to become better at it, yes it is a slow process and I'm still working on it. After this class I can truly say I'm a better communicator and listener because of everyone I encountered in this classroom. A discussion board didn't determine my skills the assignments did, they allowed me to see the world in a different perspective. I hope everyone got something out of this class because I sure did. Good Luck!

Adjourning

I would say from my past experiences when you've grown so fond of people and use to working with them, its defiantly hard to spilt and go your separate ways. Most of our group members still talked on a daily at work others went back to being themselves. From my point of view I don't go to work to make friends long term more so just coworker friends so leaving a group doesn't really affect me much. I would agree that working with people who think the same way you do and move at the same pace is hard to come by and hard to let go. I say that because now- a - days people have no work ethic  and no passion for what they do. Usually when a group project is over with we have a pot luck and all the participants bring something in. Leaving the group I defiantly gained different incites on how to get parents to participate on their children's lives. From the master program I have read and learned many things from my peers which will help me in my future endeavors toward owning m...

Conflicts or Disagreements

Lately I've noticed that I have conflict with administering the rules and regulations at my job to my workers. This is mainly because going from their co-worker to their boss is kind of a difficult transition. Alot of my co-workers I feel still dont take me seriously or listen when I say certain stuff. For me its hard I guess being serious when needed to people I use to joke around with. I have found talking with God, my boyfriend, and my boss about my struggles and hearing them out with their advice is making it much easier for me to do my job. At home me and my boyfriend sometimes have alot of misunderstandings due to miscommunication on both ends. Either I dont say enough or he says to much and im left confused. I've found actually listening to what he says and not just listening to respond. When I do that it really helps our conversation move forward. I sometimes would rather keep things in and then when things happen let it all out and I've come to realize that is not...

Evaluation

During this evaluation this week I came across some interesting view points on my communication styles from my colleagues and friends. I was also shocked at how hard I am on myself when it comes to communicating. I've realized that sometimes I try to hard to talk because I'm use to keeping everything in and that can sometimes come off as clingy. I thought it was interesting how others thought I communicated affectively when I literally have to look up things to talk about sometimes or how to deal with my anxiety of talking to a group of people. I have to admit it has gotten better working with kids and having to talk all the time, I still have my moments but the shell is broken. I do think I still have a ways to go especially when it comes to the many ways of listening, but I call myself a work in progress.

Groups and Cultures

At my place of work there are many different backgrounds, beliefs, and ways of life compared to what I'm use to seeing. My mom raised me right though, I have never judged or looked down on anyone for believing something different than me. I wont lie and say I don't find their views on things interesting but I have never treated or looked at them any differently. One of my close friends at my job is Asian and the only one there but she is like family to me. I treat, and talk to her the same way I would anyone else there. However we do have a staff member who is from India who doesn't eat meat so we have to accommodate her when we have our staff meetings. When I sit and think about it there is one person I don't talk to that often mainly because I never understand what she is saying because she talks so fast and her accent is so thick. She's from Africa and she can come off a bit rude at times so you have to know how to talk and translate what she says. I could be be...

T.V. Show Grey's Anatomy

When the show starts we see this family, a husband feeding his infant boy then the mother walks in with their teenage daughter who shows her dad her 30 day sober coin. (sound off) With the (sound on) we here that the two aren't really married just coworkers who live together and the man has adopted a child and the woman took in the mother of the baby who gained a drug addiction. Next scene we see a wedding taking place with people drinking and laughing, children running around playing. Based on facial expressions we see people are frustrated then the scene jumps to a bride and groom coming down the aisle. With this wedding we see a few guest looking confused as if they don't know the bride and groom. Then they all try to walk out without making a scene with a shocked looked on their face. Wedding of Alex and Jo two of the doctors at grey solan memorial takes place today. April who organized most of it is frustrated because she doesn't see any guest yet. The scene j...

My Mother

Interesting how I’m writing this on mother’s day, but my mom is best in our family at communication. I say this because when you talk to her you don’t feel any pressure or judgement she listens then ask questions and then gives her input. She doesn’t make faces if you say something off the wall or fold her arms like she is bored and tired of hearing you complain. My mother is a very understanding down to earth person which is why I look up to her so much. Even in a argument she doesn’t get out of character like the other person she stays calm but still gets her point across. I envy that trait because so many people get under my skin when talking about something that is passionate to me but may not be to them.

Diverse Backgrounds

One hope that I have is that I can be the teacher in my daycare that is well diverse with all my families. Making them and their children feel welcome in the classroom, during drop off and pick up. Communication is key in this field and getting to know my families background is important to their child's development and success in my classroom. One goal I would like to set for the early childhood field is that we open our minds and hearts to difference! Therefore allowing us to accept all our families and their different walks in life. Thank you everyone for reading and responding to my blog, good luck on your future endeavors!

Poland

The name of my families orgin will be Poland! One thing I will do to make sure my new student feels right at home when she comes into my classroom is to: Make sure my individual lesson plan is geared to helping them adapt to their new environment. Make sure I'm aware of my own biases when it comes to different cultural I will also make sure I have different displays of their cultural and books around the classroom. Make sure I'm open to different ways of teaching that might need to done in order to make the transition easier on both parent and child Finally having a packet ready and also translated for them just incase they cant quite understand or read english yet. With these preparations in mind I hope it will bring me and my new family and student closer together. This will help our relationship start off on the right path and build trust. You always want to make sure the parents feel at ease when leaving their child for the first time at daycare, and I believe my...

The Personal Side of Bias, Prejudice, and Oppression

I would say when Muslims go through airports security now, they are checked more thoroughly than others based on what happened with 911. Even though its been years since this has happened and most Muslims are now Americans United States still feel the need to take extra precautions. Just because of an event that happened years ago a whole race is now set aside and not treated equally as other Americans. They even took it too another level by burning synagogues which is Muslims, and Jews safe haven. I wouldn't say that this situation affected me as much as the ones in the situation. My outlook on the human race changed because of how we treat a race based off one incident. Because of slavery African Americans will always be at some disadvantage in certain areas or looked as a threat or lesser than. Latinos will always be seen as the race that will work for any amount of pay because they might not be legal and can only accept under the counter money. There are so many stereotypical a...

Religion

I was in the store the other day shopping for groceries, I walked to the checkout and it was a bunch of guys just standing behind me. They saw my attire which was long skirt my veil on my head and not showing cleavage. The normal female is dressed in pants with their cleavage out and head uncovered so they jumped to the conclusion which was she's a Muslim. They kept saying oh you must be a muslim why cant we see no skin sweetheart, without even knowing they had dehumanized me with their words. Just being typically men of the world not being opened to something out of the normal for them to see on a female. I felt disrespected that they felt i needed to dress a certain way to appeal to their eye. The only eye I'm trying to appeal to is God and my future husband! With this happening to me it just made me realize even the more how messed up this world is to things not of the normal to them. We judge and joke around without even knowing the effects we are leaving on people who liv...

Perspectives on Diversity and Culture

What is your definition of culture? I believe the definition of culture is ones beliefs, morals, religion, lifestyle, and upbringing. The meaning of culture seems to have expanded over the years from when I was born it was just your heritage. What is your definition of diversity? I believe the definition of diversity is a human being or certain individual being separated yet familiarized with other human beings and their background. It is also being open to all walks of life and not judging them in the process. What is your definition of culture? I believe culture is the way you or your family view and do things. We all have our ways and rituals, which make us who we are. What is your definition of diversity? Being able to work and communicate with others from different backgrounds than yourself. What is your definition of culture? Is like traditions to me, things that have been passed down or valued among your family. What is your definition of diversity? Being ...

My Family Culture

1. Recipe book- which belonged to my grandma and has been passed down to me to continue her legacy. 2. Family thanksgiving photo- the one thanksgiving when everyone was there together happy. 3. China- We have plates, silverware, and cups that have been passed down, I would choose one plate to bring. Explaining the recipe book would be tough for me because it means the most. My grandma passed away 5 months ago and all we use to do was cook in the kitchen together during holidays. She taught me all I know about cooking and its all in her recipe notes that she left for me. With the family photo, spending time with family means alot to me and i recently realized how much I took it for granted seeing now since my grandma is gone the whole family hasnt been together in one place. So the picture showing everyone happily together brings joy to my heart. I know my grandma wanted me to have the China that was also passed down to her so I would want to take that along with me as well to pass...
