Poland

The name of my families orgin will be Poland! One thing I will do to make sure my new student feels right at home when she comes into my classroom is to: Make sure my individual lesson plan is geared to helping them adapt to their new environment. Make sure I'm aware of my own biases when it comes to different cultural I will also make sure I have different displays of their cultural and books around the classroom. Make sure I'm open to different ways of teaching that might need to done in order to make the transition easier on both parent and child Finally having a packet ready and also translated for them just incase they cant quite understand or read english yet. With these preparations in mind I hope it will bring me and my new family and student closer together. This will help our relationship start off on the right path and build trust. You always want to make sure the parents feel at ease when leaving their child for the first time at daycare, and I believe my...

The Personal Side of Bias, Prejudice, and Oppression

I would say when Muslims go through airports security now, they are checked more thoroughly than others based on what happened with 911. Even though its been years since this has happened and most Muslims are now Americans United States still feel the need to take extra precautions. Just because of an event that happened years ago a whole race is now set aside and not treated equally as other Americans. They even took it too another level by burning synagogues which is Muslims, and Jews safe haven. I wouldn't say that this situation affected me as much as the ones in the situation. My outlook on the human race changed because of how we treat a race based off one incident. Because of slavery African Americans will always be at some disadvantage in certain areas or looked as a threat or lesser than. Latinos will always be seen as the race that will work for any amount of pay because they might not be legal and can only accept under the counter money. There are so many stereotypical a...

Religion

I was in the store the other day shopping for groceries, I walked to the checkout and it was a bunch of guys just standing behind me. They saw my attire which was long skirt my veil on my head and not showing cleavage. The normal female is dressed in pants with their cleavage out and head uncovered so they jumped to the conclusion which was she's a Muslim. They kept saying oh you must be a muslim why cant we see no skin sweetheart, without even knowing they had dehumanized me with their words. Just being typically men of the world not being opened to something out of the normal for them to see on a female. I felt disrespected that they felt i needed to dress a certain way to appeal to their eye. The only eye I'm trying to appeal to is God and my future husband! With this happening to me it just made me realize even the more how messed up this world is to things not of the normal to them. We judge and joke around without even knowing the effects we are leaving on people who liv...
