I would say when Muslims go through airports security now, they are checked more thoroughly than others based on what happened with 911. Even though its been years since this has happened and most Muslims are now Americans United States still feel the need to take extra precautions. Just because of an event that happened years ago a whole race is now set aside and not treated equally as other Americans. They even took it too another level by burning synagogues which is Muslims, and Jews safe haven. I wouldn't say that this situation affected me as much as the ones in the situation. My outlook on the human race changed because of how we treat a race based off one incident. Because of slavery African Americans will always be at some disadvantage in certain areas or looked as a threat or lesser than. Latinos will always be seen as the race that will work for any amount of pay because they might not be legal and can only accept under the counter money. There are so many stereotypical aspects of life now a days. We as a human race have to changed the way we view people different than ourselves in order for violence to stop!
1."We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” -George Bernard Shaw 2.“Play is the beginning of knowledge.” -George Dorsey When I was younger play was a major part of my daily routine. I was barely in the house growing up, if anything I never wanted to back inside when the street lights came on. I learned so many rights and wrongs from climbing trees, riding my bike in the street, missing curfews, having play dates also taught me social skills as well. Parents always wanted the kids out the house, because sitting in front of a screen wasn't teaching them what they can learn from experience. Now a days it's a rare chance you see children who actually want to go outside and play, and that's all because of the time of techonokogy. Parents need to watch how much time they are letting their kids be on these tablets, cell phones, and computers.
Angelique, this is so true about Muslims and security at airports. I feel that everyone should be treated fairly and these days Muslims are not a harm its everyone. I know a Latino family that worked and lived on the farm and they were paying them a small amount of money. I agree with you we have to change how we view people and the way we treat them also. Great blog..
ReplyDeleteHello. I liked how you touched on many aspects of how every race is treated. They are sterotypes and prejudices that effect every culture and every race each day. I would have to say that before this class, although I try not to, there are times when I myself have fallen short. I have thought or acted in a way that may have been prejudice just based upon something that I may have thought about another culture. When writing about these issues, I feel that we have to look into ourselves first and address how we treat other people even on an uncoscious level.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, the whole world changed after 911. Living right outside of New York City, my father a NYC police officer, I saw the effects first hand. I think that the situations that were created post 911 impacted your life more than you might think. It's not just airports that inconvenience you with their strict security. Have you been to a sporting event or a concert lately? Be prepared to go through metal detectors, have your bag searched, and be patted down. While I agree with you, some groups are targeted for more thorough searches than others, in my opinion, the general public has also faced more strict restrictions. Perhaps prior security was too lenient.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. Everyone should be treated fairly and with respect regardless of their race, religion, or gender. Great post!!
