My Family Culture

1. Recipe book- which belonged to my grandma and has been passed down to me to continue her legacy.
2. Family thanksgiving photo- the one thanksgiving when everyone was there together happy.
3. China- We have plates, silverware, and cups that have been passed down, I would choose one plate to bring.
Explaining the recipe book would be tough for me because it means the most. My grandma passed away 5 months ago and all we use to do was cook in the kitchen together during holidays. She taught me all I know about cooking and its all in her recipe notes that she left for me.
With the family photo, spending time with family means alot to me and i recently realized how much I took it for granted seeing now since my grandma is gone the whole family hasnt been together in one place. So the picture showing everyone happily together brings joy to my heart.
I know my grandma wanted me to have the China that was also passed down to her so I would want to take that along with me as well to pass on to my next generation.
If I were told I had to give up two other items upon arrival I would probably be crushed and not know what to do in that scenario because they all hold great value to me. If I had a choice though I would keep the recipes.
I have really learned how much my grandma meant and had such a great impact on my life. I know others might have more valuable things they would choose to take with them, but for me family is the most valuable thing you can have!

  1. Angelique, I knew that each one of the participants would have a different answer about the item to keep. I love how you incorporated how you would keep the China to pass it on to the next generation. Thanks for sharing with us and your blog had me thinking about what other items I could have taken with me.

My Connections to Play

1."We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” -George Bernard Shaw 2.“Play is the beginning of knowledge.” -George Dorsey When I was younger play was a major part of my daily routine. I was barely in the house growing up, if anything I never wanted to back inside when the street lights came on. I learned so many rights and wrongs from climbing trees, riding my bike in the street, missing curfews, having play dates also taught me social skills as well. Parents always wanted the kids out the house, because sitting in front of a screen wasn't teaching them what they can learn from experience. Now a days it's a rare chance you see children who actually want to go outside and play, and that's all because of the time of techonokogy. Parents need to watch how much time they are letting their kids be on these tablets, cell phones, and computers.

My Supports

Within my daily environment I have a lot of people and things that support and aid me in getting my job done correctly. Some things I rely on and would have a hard time functioning without in my classroom is the app called precious status which is the form of communication between the school and the parents about their child. I never knew how much gloves came in handy either until we ran out one day and it was very hard trying to change children with the improper gloves or clean up for that matter. My director and assistant are also supportive people who help me throughout the day to make the day go smoother within the classroom and outside. My director makes sure I'm up to date with all my required trainings that way I can be the most effective teacher for my students. My assistant makes sure I'm not overwhelmed within the classroom and helps me with lesson plans, activities, and many other aspects of the classroom. I would be able to function without my assistant but it would...

Expanding Horizons and Expanding Resources

The podcast I chose to follow is called, "Angela Watson's Truth for Teachers". From this episode I learned some very good tips and practices I can put into effect in order to make sure I'm getting the proper rest and self-care I need. Teachers are no help to a student if they aren't in the right state of mind to teach, and that can be for many reasons such as lack of sleep, lack of eating, lack of exercise, lack of training, and many more reasons. Sometimes I get stressed out in class because I don't have all the materials needed to properly teach my students, yes they come first but if I'm not being supplied with the materials to teach them with then my state of mind is being jeopardized. Self-care goes a long way instead of just sitting around at home watching t.v. like I do I could watch an educational documentary and improve my skills as a teacher. This podcast is meant to, "speak life, encouragement, and truth into the minds and hearts of educato...
