Final Blog Assignment

From all the research this class has brought me I have learned many things that helped my professional and personal development in the early childhood education field. For one I learned that poverty is much more than what we see on the streets, and it affects children deeper than i ever thought. However, I also learned that there are many resources available to people that can help children and families in need. I have gained knowledge from my website ZerotoThree from all the newsletters they send about children and the importance of the early years of life. This website has really given me a source base for understanding children and why they act and react the way they do. This website also gives me a outlet to give to parent if they needed any resources or questions answered about their children. Even though I wasn't able to talk with my professional because the podcast had ended listening to all the old ones really gave me a great understanding of teachers around the world. One...

UNESCO

Since I still haven’t heard from a professional, I chose to research the website provided this week. I have learned three different things from this website pertaining to early childhood education and my field. “ Early childhood care and education (ECCE) is more than preparation for primary school. It aims at the holistic development of a child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs in order to build a solid and broad foundation for lifelong learning and wellbeing”(UNESCO, n.d.). There are many different websites that promote and help early childhood educators provide quality education to these children. They also have resources available to children who might not have access to high quality care. Another fact I learned is, “  For disadvantaged children, ECCE plays an important role in compensating for the disadvantages in the family  and combating educational inequalities”(UNESCO, n.d.). A lot of countries around the world don’t have the advantages we do when it c...

Five Questions

I followed a link connecting to a link under policy and advocacy, talking about poverty declining but how its still affect early brain connections. I found this link interesting because this is the first time in years that the poverty rate for children has dropped below 20 percent. "t hat means 168,000 fewer infants and toddlers lived in poverty last year than in 2015" (Cole, 2017). Under this article were many other relating articles about putting babies and there needs into the policy picture. Although my recent newsletter was not about the poverty of children, it was more so focused on children and how exploring their bodies is normal. Questions like, "what do you tell your child their private parts are came up" and answers were telling them the correct name which is true because God forbid anything happen to a child and they don't know the proper name to their private area it wont hold up in a court of law. My website did have information about school readi...

Global Children's Initiative

"Recent reports estimate that 200 million children fail to reach their full developmental potential by age 5. Drawing on our experience in North America, the Center on the Developing Child works globally to build a broader movement to achieve breakthrough outcomes for children around the world" (Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University, 2010). The Center on the Developing Child is helping not only in the U.S. but in Brazil, Canada, and Mexico saving brains of children. In Brazil they are coming up with new ways and angles on addressing childhood issues and putting them to a test. I learned that Canada Is working on ways to close the gap between what we know and what we do. "Inequity pervades early childhood education, seriously restricting who has access to services, the quality of the services themselves, the quality and competency of those who teach young children, the nature and application of regulations, the quality and thoroughness of the expectations ...
