What is your definition of culture?
I believe the definition of culture
is ones beliefs, morals, religion, lifestyle, and upbringing. The meaning of
culture seems to have expanded over the years from when I was born it was just
your heritage.
What is your definition of
diversity?
I believe the definition of
diversity is a human being or certain individual being separated yet familiarized
with other human beings and their background. It is also being open to all
walks of life and not judging them in the process.
What is your definition of culture?
I believe culture is the way you or
your family view and do things. We all have our ways and rituals, which make us
who we are.
What is your definition of
diversity?
Being able to work and communicate
with others from different backgrounds than yourself.
What is your definition of culture?
Is like traditions to me, things
that have been passed down or valued among your family.
What is your definition of
diversity?
Being able to interact, work, and
communicate with multiple ethnic backgrounds and still find common ground
within them all.
I did realize that
most of the responses were similar to my thinking and to what I have read in
most articles, especially when one of my interviews spoke on the not judging
someone based off their culture. “When I meet someone who obviously doesn’t move
in the same cultural framework that I do, I’m jarred. Because my way seems
right, even normal, I tend to judge others based on my own perspective” (Gonzalez-Mena, 2008) .
From watching the
videos the one thing I noticed was omitted was the fact that culture is more
than just ethnicity it’s our gestures the way we act, talk, walk, and think its
everything! Seeing how others think have me wanting to gain more knowledge on
the topic of diversity and culture even the more.

Angelique,
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading your blog and the definitions your family/colleagues gave you for both culture and diversity. I agree that I found many similiaries as well in my responses as well as the responses I have read from our class colleagues. These last several weeks have allowed me to further self-reflect on a lot of things.
One of your friends responses said that “we should not judge someone based off their culture,” I believe this to be so true. We need to look at everyone as individual and find their own uniqueness. That’s why I feel communication and listening, respecting, and acceptance is very important. All very important for us as educators.
One of the words I found we all had in common with culture was traditions and I agree with you that the one thing that was omitted was the fact that “culture is more than just ethnicity, it our gestures (how we present ourselves to others) just like you said walking, talking, acting, it sure is everything about us! “
Thanks for sharing.

Great post! I think each of your definitions on culture and diversity are cool and that they are all different but still have a core. I think that you did a nice job with the post overall.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI saw the word rituals in your post. I realized that I hadnt seen that anywhere else so far. I think that the term really adds to the definition of culture. I agree the videos gave me incite on how important diversity is an how it is encompassed of the way we talk wlak and think. I do not think that most people know this based on the blog entries that I read about the interview quetions.
