Time Well Spent

I have to say this has been a long beneficial journey. I will say after this I'm done I've been in school since elementary haha, I think I've done my duty. Of course in this field we have trainings constantly to stay up to date and educated though. I never thought I'd be one to join an organization especially not one in the early childhood field, however since joining NAEYC I have learned so much insight on different avenues I can take when it comes to managing, teaching, and progressing.

This program helped me find my passion in life inspiring, teaching, caring, and loving children as they have the right to be. Also, in this field making sure parents never miss out on being the first teacher in their children’s life.

This program made me come face to face with my weaknesses and turn them into strengths. I went years just covering up things I needed to work on because I was afraid of failing, but this program has given me more power than I thought I had.

This program showed me my worth and potential. Sometimes when you are at a certain place for so long you get complacent, and I never want to go through life like that when I could be tapping into my fullest potential and also positively influence children and families if I took the leap. I’m taking the leap now and applying for assistant principal, education manager, and soon enough business owner.

My long-term goal is to keep in mind everything that I have learned these past years in this program and implement them at my facility. Most of all always remembering the children come first.

I want to thank all my instructors throughout this program, especially Dr. Lisa Embree for all the help and feedback that was given this class. Truly without it the capstone project probably would have been stressful and juggling a full time job. To my colleagues your visions, your responses have opened my eyes to so many new insights the world has to offer. I thank everyone for giving their thoughts on my post and allowing me to share mine as well. I wish everyone the best and good luck on their journey in the early childhood field! 2. I also joined NAEYC and have learned a wealth of information and have been given resources that I can pass along to my teachers and to my families. Education is such a vast field that is constantly changing and being updated. Rules change, requirements change, but the one thing that stays the same is children need constant care. We have to remember to stay focused and remember that the decisions that we make are for the children. We have to remember to be intentional.

  3. Hi Angelique

It has been a pleasure getting to know you through this program! My center is currently going through NAEYC accreditation so we have a lot going on when I get back from maternity leave! I have also learned my worth and potential through this program and can't wait to show it as I work up to a Director position with my company! Good luck in the future!

My Connections to Play

1."We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” -George Bernard Shaw 2.“Play is the beginning of knowledge.” -George Dorsey When I was younger play was a major part of my daily routine. I was barely in the house growing up, if anything I never wanted to back inside when the street lights came on. I learned so many rights and wrongs from climbing trees, riding my bike in the street, missing curfews, having play dates also taught me social skills as well. Parents always wanted the kids out the house, because sitting in front of a screen wasn't teaching them what they can learn from experience. Now a days it's a rare chance you see children who actually want to go outside and play, and that's all because of the time of techonokogy. Parents need to watch how much time they are letting their kids be on these tablets, cell phones, and computers.

My Supports

Within my daily environment I have a lot of people and things that support and aid me in getting my job done correctly. Some things I rely on and would have a hard time functioning without in my classroom is the app called precious status which is the form of communication between the school and the parents about their child. I never knew how much gloves came in handy either until we ran out one day and it was very hard trying to change children with the improper gloves or clean up for that matter. My director and assistant are also supportive people who help me throughout the day to make the day go smoother within the classroom and outside. My director makes sure I'm up to date with all my required trainings that way I can be the most effective teacher for my students. My assistant makes sure I'm not overwhelmed within the classroom and helps me with lesson plans, activities, and many other aspects of the classroom. I would be able to function without my assistant but it would...

Expanding Horizons and Expanding Resources

The podcast I chose to follow is called, "Angela Watson's Truth for Teachers". From this episode I learned some very good tips and practices I can put into effect in order to make sure I'm getting the proper rest and self-care I need. Teachers are no help to a student if they aren't in the right state of mind to teach, and that can be for many reasons such as lack of sleep, lack of eating, lack of exercise, lack of training, and many more reasons. Sometimes I get stressed out in class because I don't have all the materials needed to properly teach my students, yes they come first but if I'm not being supplied with the materials to teach them with then my state of mind is being jeopardized. Self-care goes a long way instead of just sitting around at home watching t.v. like I do I could watch an educational documentary and improve my skills as a teacher. This podcast is meant to, "speak life, encouragement, and truth into the minds and hearts of educato...
