One thing I will do to make sure my new student feels right at home when she comes into my classroom is to:
- Make sure my individual lesson plan is geared to helping them adapt to their new environment.
- Make sure I'm aware of my own biases when it comes to different cultural
- I will also make sure I have different displays of their cultural and books around the classroom.
- Make sure I'm open to different ways of teaching that might need to done in order to make the transition easier on both parent and child
- Finally having a packet ready and also translated for them just incase they cant quite understand or read english yet.
With these preparations in mind I hope it will bring me and my new family and student closer together. This will help our relationship start off on the right path and build trust. You always want to make sure the parents feel at ease when leaving their child for the first time at daycare, and I believe my methods will make them feel comfortable and at ease.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteYour post made me think. I do not know of anyone from Poland either. While doing this blog post and reading others' responses it is so interesting to think about all of the countries that we may know nothing about.I appreciated where youu stated that you would try to make sure that you are aware of your own biases. That was a very important statement. Many times people do not take into consideration that they miust be open minded and accepting of other's cultures.
Nice post! I think it is cool that your family is from Poland. I like your strategies to help the child feel adapted in your classroom. I think this will help him get used to a new environment.
ReplyDeleteGreat Post!! The different strategies you use for the classroom to help the students come accustom and comfortable in the classroom are good!!
