I chose the topic breastfeeding because I find the bond a child and mother have during this process amazing. I think everyone should at least try to breastfeed when having a child, it gives you that alone time and your baby more nutrition. "Babies who are exclusively breast-fed are less often sick, partly because breast milk provides antibodies and decreases allergies and asthma" (Berger, 2016). Not to mention breast milk is just better for the child to process and also good for the brain.
I looked up breastfeeding in Australia and I believe this topic is well-rounded no matter what part of the country we are in. However, "Statistics from the 2010 Australian National Infant Feeding Survey3results indicate that 96% of mothers initiate breastfeeding. Thereafter, exclusive breastfeeding rates drop off" (Australian Breastfeeding Association, n.d.). Working in a daycare I can see half of my parents breastfeed all the way until 1 years old and others say they just cant do it because of their schedule. I've learned that breastfeeding is not only important to the baby but to the mom and family as well and that all families should find time to breastfeed if possible. After doing this assignment I am more sympathetic towards my parents who try to prolong the breastfeeding stages and it also gives me knowledge for when I want to have my own children some day.

Breastfeeding is a great opportunity to for mom and baby to bond. I breastfeed my daughter until around six months. I think we should encourage moms but not shame them if it doesn't work out. I remember crying in the doctors office because I wanted to quit at six months. My doctor was amazing and reminded me that there are people who never even start and their child is fine. Breastfeeding is good because you give your child all your antibodies which helps keep them healthy. Overall, breastfeeding is best when it works for both mom and baby.
