Internationally

"UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their potential, from early childhood through adolescence. And we never give up" (UNICEF, n.d.).

Education Manager located in Barbados

The purpose of this job is to, manage, help with program development and planning, monitoring results, providing technical support, along with being an advocacy and building partnerships along the way. In order to qualify I would have to have an advanced degree in education, having worked in a developing country, and minimum of eight years planning, and managing. I choose this organization, because it puts me outside my boundaries of working in my safety zone. I want to be able to help others nationwide not just in the U.S gain the education they deserve.

"For 100 years, we’ve been giving children in the U.S. and around the world a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm" (Save the Children, n.d.).

Coordinator, Family Services for Montgomery, More & Stany County in North Carolina.
I would need a Associates in early childhood development, be able to maintain effective relationships with families, staff, children and other agencies that might become involved, and also “effective communication, problem-solving, organizational and time management skills” (Save the Children, 2019, p. 1). I choose this because its related to my passion of engaging families in their children’s lives and assessing both parties needs and strengths.

"We are a learning community, powered by the leading early childhood experts in Europe and Central Asia. We unite professionals and partners to deliver high-quality early years services equitably. We challenge existing knowledge and practice and co-construct new approaches and models" (Issa, n.d.).

This organization doesn't seem to have a careers or job website but I would defiantly join as a member to aid in the early childhood development cause.

  1. Angelique,
We chose the same organizations that interest us. I like the job that you highlighted in Barbados because it seems to be one that really requires you to take an active and responsible role in others education. I like the fact that you chose this one because it puts you outside your safety zone. I think often times we always get so comfortable with what we could do here in the U.S and forget there are so many other children in other countries that can use our work as well. It takes a real leader to be able to step outside their comfort zone for the greater good of others. Thanks for sharing.

My Connections to Play

1."We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” -George Bernard Shaw 2.“Play is the beginning of knowledge.” -George Dorsey When I was younger play was a major part of my daily routine. I was barely in the house growing up, if anything I never wanted to back inside when the street lights came on. I learned so many rights and wrongs from climbing trees, riding my bike in the street, missing curfews, having play dates also taught me social skills as well. Parents always wanted the kids out the house, because sitting in front of a screen wasn't teaching them what they can learn from experience. Now a days it's a rare chance you see children who actually want to go outside and play, and that's all because of the time of techonokogy. Parents need to watch how much time they are letting their kids be on these tablets, cell phones, and computers.

My Supports

Within my daily environment I have a lot of people and things that support and aid me in getting my job done correctly. Some things I rely on and would have a hard time functioning without in my classroom is the app called precious status which is the form of communication between the school and the parents about their child. I never knew how much gloves came in handy either until we ran out one day and it was very hard trying to change children with the improper gloves or clean up for that matter. My director and assistant are also supportive people who help me throughout the day to make the day go smoother within the classroom and outside. My director makes sure I'm up to date with all my required trainings that way I can be the most effective teacher for my students. My assistant makes sure I'm not overwhelmed within the classroom and helps me with lesson plans, activities, and many other aspects of the classroom. I would be able to function without my assistant but it would...

Expanding Horizons and Expanding Resources

The podcast I chose to follow is called, "Angela Watson's Truth for Teachers". From this episode I learned some very good tips and practices I can put into effect in order to make sure I'm getting the proper rest and self-care I need. Teachers are no help to a student if they aren't in the right state of mind to teach, and that can be for many reasons such as lack of sleep, lack of eating, lack of exercise, lack of training, and many more reasons. Sometimes I get stressed out in class because I don't have all the materials needed to properly teach my students, yes they come first but if I'm not being supplied with the materials to teach them with then my state of mind is being jeopardized. Self-care goes a long way instead of just sitting around at home watching t.v. like I do I could watch an educational documentary and improve my skills as a teacher. This podcast is meant to, "speak life, encouragement, and truth into the minds and hearts of educato...
