National/Federal Level

This assignment comes at the right time for me, with my masters in arms reach I am looking for jobs within the early childhood field that would be of interest to me. I love the work I do, but the feeling of growing out of a place and wanting to spread your wings and make an impact on the world is overpowering in a good way. I would love to become the director over a facility or assistant principal, even education manager over my district if the opportunities present themselves. This blog is given me the resources and thought process I will need when it comes to finding jobs that I qualify for and would benefit me in the future. I found three organizations/agencies that focus on what I do now as a childhood profession.

U.S. Department of Education mission is to, “Encourage the increased involvement of the public, parents, and students in Federal education programs; promote improvements in the quality and usefulness of education through Federally supported research, evaluation, and sharing of information” (U.S. Department of Education, n.d.). When I read that they promote parent involvement, it had me sole! I truly believe parents make an impact and finding organizations that believe the same way is a goal of mine. I didn’t see any jobs that actually interest me on their website mainly because they are the federal side of things, I more so want to be involved with the community and not be the money supply of it.

NAEYC organization, “promotes high-quality early learning for all children, birth through age 8, by connecting practice, policy, and research” (NAEYC, n.d.). I love this organization for everything they offer for not only educators but parents and children as a whole. They have the week of the child which I will expand on throughout my capstone project. They have resources for parents to help with their child’s development as well. They have a job for Sales Coordinator, which I’m not really interested in but would apply for the time being until something of my interest comes up. I meet all requirements of the job BS in business administration, organized, verbal and written skills, work in a fast-paced environment, team player, and proficiency in MS office.

“The Office of Early Childhood Development (ECD) promotes a joint federal approach to improve early childhood education and development” (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, n.d.). This agency provides a wide range of resources for families, facilities, and educators that I think if used more often could help a lot of people. Especially dual language learners, autism children, families needing health care, facilities needing grants and so forth. At this time the don’t have any job postings, their jobs actually tie in with my first organization U.S. Department of Education.

  1. Angelique,

I have enjoyed reading your blog post this week. I have to agree with you that I always worry that will feel out of place or that I am not doing enough to make a difference. I think that as educators we nee to spread our wings once in a while so that we do not get to a point that we don't enjoy or love what we do. I too looked at two of you three agencies you looked at the U.S. Department of Education and the NAEYC.
Thank you for sharing about The Office of Early Childhood Development (ECD). I will add this to my resources.

  2. Great Blog! I have to agree that this assignment comes at the right time when we are looking to see what we are capable of with our degrees. NAEYC comes with many opportunities to work for an amazing company. I love the things that NAEYC does for families of young children and their families. Throughout our degree we relied on a great deal of information that was supplied to us through articles that NAEYC had supplied. I know that this helps us to know that this would be a wonderful place to work for. Thank you for the job opportunities that you supplied, they were very insightful!

My Connections to Play

1."We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” -George Bernard Shaw 2.“Play is the beginning of knowledge.” -George Dorsey When I was younger play was a major part of my daily routine. I was barely in the house growing up, if anything I never wanted to back inside when the street lights came on. I learned so many rights and wrongs from climbing trees, riding my bike in the street, missing curfews, having play dates also taught me social skills as well. Parents always wanted the kids out the house, because sitting in front of a screen wasn't teaching them what they can learn from experience. Now a days it's a rare chance you see children who actually want to go outside and play, and that's all because of the time of techonokogy. Parents need to watch how much time they are letting their kids be on these tablets, cell phones, and computers.

My Supports

Within my daily environment I have a lot of people and things that support and aid me in getting my job done correctly. Some things I rely on and would have a hard time functioning without in my classroom is the app called precious status which is the form of communication between the school and the parents about their child. I never knew how much gloves came in handy either until we ran out one day and it was very hard trying to change children with the improper gloves or clean up for that matter. My director and assistant are also supportive people who help me throughout the day to make the day go smoother within the classroom and outside. My director makes sure I'm up to date with all my required trainings that way I can be the most effective teacher for my students. My assistant makes sure I'm not overwhelmed within the classroom and helps me with lesson plans, activities, and many other aspects of the classroom. I would be able to function without my assistant but it would...

Expanding Horizons and Expanding Resources

The podcast I chose to follow is called, "Angela Watson's Truth for Teachers". From this episode I learned some very good tips and practices I can put into effect in order to make sure I'm getting the proper rest and self-care I need. Teachers are no help to a student if they aren't in the right state of mind to teach, and that can be for many reasons such as lack of sleep, lack of eating, lack of exercise, lack of training, and many more reasons. Sometimes I get stressed out in class because I don't have all the materials needed to properly teach my students, yes they come first but if I'm not being supplied with the materials to teach them with then my state of mind is being jeopardized. Self-care goes a long way instead of just sitting around at home watching t.v. like I do I could watch an educational documentary and improve my skills as a teacher. This podcast is meant to, "speak life, encouragement, and truth into the minds and hearts of educato...
