When I Think of Research

My simulation is very important to the early childhood field because it helps children from long term suffering from the affects of child neglect. Bringing awareness to the ways we can decrease child neglect helps not only children but families, caregivers, and mandated reporters.
Children would benefit by not having to go through adulthood with the past of abuse hovering over them. People will know the signs of when something is going wrong in a child's life and be able to help sooner rather than later when too much damage has been done. With caregivers this simulation will give them the tools needed to notice and report child neglect when seen, and families the resources to help their child and themselves. The only way that comes to mind about my view of early childhood professions is that we need to be more knowledgeable about what goes on in a child's life and the signs when shown of abuse or neglect.
I thank everyone for all the thoughtful comments this course, we made it through! Good luck on future courses.

  1. Angelique, I enjoyed reading your blog. Families or educators are not aware of the effect that child neglect may have on a child in the future. I have seen adults deal with their past and it was not a good sight and I was like what happened to them and they would talk about neglect as a child and how it affected them in their adulthood. I agree that educators need to be more aware of what goes on in a child's life so we can help them and not hinder them. Great job and have a happy holiday!

  2. Thank You so much for sharing your passion over the last eight weeks. It is important that we care for our children and help them when in need. While all things can't be prevented, some things can and we have to start somewhere, and you are on that path. I wish you the Best of Luck!

  3. Great job on your simulation assignment. You picked a great topic that is incredibly important around the globe. It breaks my heart whenever I hear about child abuse. Children are such fragile beings who should be nurtured. They didn't ask for the life that they were given. Thanks to professionals like you, hopefully we can put an end to child abuse.

  4. Nice post! Child neglect is extremely important and I don't think people realize how important it really is in our field. It can make a big difference in how children learn and develop and I think it is great that you would conduct your research on that topic. It's been a pleasure learning and sharing information with you throughout this course. Best of luck!

My Connections to Play

1."We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” -George Bernard Shaw 2.“Play is the beginning of knowledge.” -George Dorsey When I was younger play was a major part of my daily routine. I was barely in the house growing up, if anything I never wanted to back inside when the street lights came on. I learned so many rights and wrongs from climbing trees, riding my bike in the street, missing curfews, having play dates also taught me social skills as well. Parents always wanted the kids out the house, because sitting in front of a screen wasn't teaching them what they can learn from experience. Now a days it's a rare chance you see children who actually want to go outside and play, and that's all because of the time of techonokogy. Parents need to watch how much time they are letting their kids be on these tablets, cell phones, and computers.

My Supports

Within my daily environment I have a lot of people and things that support and aid me in getting my job done correctly. Some things I rely on and would have a hard time functioning without in my classroom is the app called precious status which is the form of communication between the school and the parents about their child. I never knew how much gloves came in handy either until we ran out one day and it was very hard trying to change children with the improper gloves or clean up for that matter. My director and assistant are also supportive people who help me throughout the day to make the day go smoother within the classroom and outside. My director makes sure I'm up to date with all my required trainings that way I can be the most effective teacher for my students. My assistant makes sure I'm not overwhelmed within the classroom and helps me with lesson plans, activities, and many other aspects of the classroom. I would be able to function without my assistant but it would...

Expanding Horizons and Expanding Resources

The podcast I chose to follow is called, "Angela Watson's Truth for Teachers". From this episode I learned some very good tips and practices I can put into effect in order to make sure I'm getting the proper rest and self-care I need. Teachers are no help to a student if they aren't in the right state of mind to teach, and that can be for many reasons such as lack of sleep, lack of eating, lack of exercise, lack of training, and many more reasons. Sometimes I get stressed out in class because I don't have all the materials needed to properly teach my students, yes they come first but if I'm not being supplied with the materials to teach them with then my state of mind is being jeopardized. Self-care goes a long way instead of just sitting around at home watching t.v. like I do I could watch an educational documentary and improve my skills as a teacher. This podcast is meant to, "speak life, encouragement, and truth into the minds and hearts of educato...
