1."We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” -George Bernard Shaw
2.“Play is the beginning of knowledge.” -George Dorsey

When I was younger play was a major part of my daily routine. I was barely in the house growing up, if anything I never wanted to back inside when the street lights came on. I learned so many rights and wrongs from climbing trees, riding my bike in the street, missing curfews, having play dates also taught me social skills as well. Parents always wanted the kids out the house, because sitting in front of a screen wasn't teaching them what they can learn from experience. Now a days it's a rare chance you see children who actually want to go outside and play, and that's all because of the time of techonokogy. Parents need to watch how much time they are letting their kids be on these tablets, cell phones, and computers.

Hi Angelique,
ReplyDeleteI can imagine how much fun you had back in the days with playing outside. I was the same I loved being outside playing and never got tired of it. You are so right it is sad to see how technology has taken control over kids and we rarely see them outside playing like we used to. Thank you for sharing.
I'm there with you playing outside was so much fun. There was so much learning going on outdoors. It's sad to see that kids no longer spent time exploring their surroundings. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI am with you, growing up I was ever in the house. Outside was were the major happened and I learn to be a kid and explore, make messes, and use my imagination. Look back this was PLAY.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with you that children don't go outside enough now. I actually assigned my class of second and third graders to play outside for homework and they were actually upset and tried to convince me not to! Could you believe it?
ReplyDeleteAngelique: Nice post!
ReplyDeleteI didn't like to come in when the street lights came on either and I really wasn't the tree, and bugs life kind of kid. However, I spent many summers in New Orleans, where I was so afaraid of Lizards and snakes mostly snakes. I was surrounded by nothing but boy cousins, who talk me not to be scared of lizards. I'm good, but snakes NEVER! Bugs I've gotten much better.
These days yes our children do not really know anything about the farm world if they did not experience from family hertiage. If they learn just by feild trips that's small exposure. I can say I reflecting on our childhood play is a great reflection to do every once in a while, special as educators we can make our classrooms more exciting with our childhood experiences in play.
Thanks for sharing: Hope you stop by and read mines!
